I buy one antlered and one antlerless tag for rifle season every year before I go out specifically to avoid that problem. The extra tag is a drop in the bucket compared to gas to drive to where I hunt and other expenses.

My wife got me a lifetime a couple years back and it's been very nice to have. I shoot a deer and instantly have another tag.
