Also has to do with the surface area of the impact. I recently watched a video of a guy shooting through ar500 with a 50-100 IIRC, and I think a 45-90. Three of the bigger old guns punched holes clean through it while the other more modern rifles scratched or dimpled it.That was a good result, I think. I’m getting the message, speed kills, hard bullets do best thru plates.

I found the video and added to my post above. The only thing I see wrong with the testing is he has the target on a hard backstop. But it's still impressive.I question that dudes "AR500". I've seen the videos and I will say I have been unable to poke a hole through mine with 45-70 or .458 Lott. Now, I'm not super versed in 50-100 but I'd be surprised if it packs more power than the Lott.
