we always called them whistlers or whistle jets.
I flew in/out of Soto Cano AB in 99 for a hurricane relief mission with LA NG, haven't heard that name in a whileThe Honduran Air Force was flying them out of Soto Cano (Palmerola at the time) when I was there in the 80s. I also saw them all the time at Williams AFB as they were used for UPT.
Never saw one the year I was in nam (68-69). All I saw were A4’s and yes they weren’t real accurate for close ground support. Several times we were peppered with shrapnel on a “support” run. Or perhaps we were too close to the target too.It used to be one of the planes we studied in air defense. O/A-37 (Observation/Attack).
