There are several "theories about when CC might have discovered The Americas. He logs have been long lost. 1492 may have actually been his second journey to the americas according to some historians. He never landed on the mainland of America, landing instead in the Bahama's or the Dominican Republic depending on which historian you want to believe.
All of which were already inhabited.

I think the qualifier 'commonly accepted' would make the answer 1492.

Or were you looking for, "When Christopher sailed around, ringing those bells..." Sorry. Couldn't resist. For comedic effect only. Not lookin' to start a fight.

Ok can we move on to the next question. I learned history the old school way, not from computer searches or wiki. Im not a buff but I know some, what I remember from reading all them book back in the day. Let see what I still remember.
