In addition to improving access to benefits for post-9/11 veterans exposed to burn pits, the sweeping toxic exposure legislation approved 84-14 by the Senate on Thursday will add two new conditions to the Department of Veterans Affairs' list of Agent Orange-related illnesses and expand benefits for veterans sickened by radiation or poisoned water in certain geographic locations.

The bill adds hypertension and monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance, or MGUS, to the list of illnesses linked to Agent Orange exposure, allowing affected veterans to apply for health care and disability benefits with the VA without having to prove that their condition was caused by their service.

So if you are a Vietnam veteran and have hypertension or have been exposed to burn pits, You can file a claim with the VA for S/C. Plus, if you have a disease secondary to hypertension such as renal disease, it can be directly related to Agent Orange. It's sad that many have had hypertension and diseases associated with HTN but have already passed away without benefits.

It’s no different than the Cold War soldiers intentionally exposed to radiation.
As they started to suffer the cancers related to the exposure, the government denied any link between the testing and their deaths until almost all were gone.

Yep, I knew one that had cancer, he was an E-9 but that isn't enough for what he went through and would go through.

About 49,000 gallons per year leaked while AO was stored on Johnston Island. Testing in 1994 indicated contamination in 80% of the island's soil, in the water supply, and throughout the lagoon. The picture below is of the AO storage area....which is right beside the plutonium contaminated soil storage area. They had a radiation 'hot' spot on island that they couldn't clean up, so they poured concrete over it and made it into tennis courts. We had morning formation every day right beside those tennis courts...

It all started after the Civil War. The deniability of the U.S. Government to adhere to its promises of taking care of the former soldiers of each war has been atrocious. The WWI veterans were physically removed from the DC Mall by force when the gubment reneged on its promises.

Yes, sadly most of the Vietnam Vets fit into his scenario , or all other exposure related concerns already recognized. Considering all of them at least for their working lives paid taxes too and probably passed away before the age of retirement or benefits. If you are dead, there is nothing, if you are still alive here's a couple bucks-ok?
