My generation lived through hundreds of above ground nuclear weapons tests, and we've suffered no more incidences of cancer than previous generations did. I'm not trying to make lite of the problems facing the Japanese people, but I really don't think those of us in the Western Hemisphere have too much to worry about.

BTW: I don't think the star chamber, which you imagine to control every single event in this world, would consider this accident to be to their advantage. Sometimes SH*T really does just happen.

Ex-rays are good. Radiation therapy specifically targeted at a tumor can be good.
The free floating stuff is prolly a little problematic.
