Im more into history, museums hole in the wall bars and food while she likes the usual shop for way overpriced items.

Denver area has all of that. Several good micro breweries and bars, lots of unique dining options, and plenty of uppity/artsy shops for her to waste money. Plus it's beautiful, if you've never been. I've only spent a few days there, so I wasn't able to hunt down anything historic as far as old war memorials, museums, etc, but I checked out Pike's Peak, Garden of the Gods, and a couple of other places in the vicinity. Not sure what the situation is up there with the recent fires, but that's my suggestion for a week long spot within driving range.

Maybe try Nashville. Lots of civil war stuff and shopping in Franklin, TN. Also, only an hour or so to Lynchburg to tour the JD distillery. The Gaylord Opryland was cool too.

Can't go wrong with Colorado either. I second the million dollar highway suggestion as well.

Yall should just come to my house and rent out the basement. I offer midnight foot rubs, bed and breakfast (hope you like corn flakes!), and I also offer free talks at 3:00am while i suspiciously rub my chest and hummm the batman theme song.

Aren't you too young to be hitting the sauce?

I'd stay away from Florida or SE Texas. Those areas not hit by the hurricane will be inundated with those running from him.

Branson isn't bad - take in a show or two, visit the Titanic and Ripley's museum. Several golf courses in the area. Some historical sites too, I think.
