That is what I was thinking.
It does not need to be perfect.
Put a cattle guard on the front and paint it camo for 50 bucks and make the lights work.
But if it totally crushed the front and broke the a arms and pushed the engine or doors back it might be a loss.

Did it bend the hood and break windshield and make airbags go off and bust the radiator?
Sometimes a slight angle hit is not near as bad as a full on frontal.
Did you ever get pictures of it and can you post them?

First of all a big Thank You to @Sig365CCW for giving us a ride to the yard that towed the old car. I can not thank you folks enough for all that you have done for the wife and I. I tell everyone that you are the best bunch of people on the web and I mean it. Thank you again.

Anyway, the old Rav4 is totaled they said. Saying it would around $5000 to fix it and it is around a $3000 car. So now the hunt begins for real. If you hear of something decent, cheap. Please let me know. Has to have working AC because some of the meds we are on require to keep cool. Prefer something with good gas mileage and that is easy for old folks to get in and out of. Not all that picky on brand as long as it does not have the Go-cart transmission. (even the mechanic we talked to today called it that)

Hope it has gone better for you than me. I got in the middle of a chain reaction on I-35 back on Nov 20,2023. Three of four cars were Allstate insured, I was one of them. We're 1/3 of a year in and I have not been offered to repair or replace at this time. Good Hands? What a Joke! Yesterday I got a call from Gerber Collision ( Allstate's recommended repair center) and they wanted me to drive my (totaled?) car back so they could take pictures to submit to Allstate. Allstate has told me since day one they were going to total the car. WTF ? They want me to do all the work for their delayed actions. This is jacked up. I've never experienced such lackadaisical performance.

Call the insurance commissioner on them.
Wife worked for an insurance company (health) but had a friend at the commission office.
That friend told her if they have a company that gets 3 calls on them they will most likely get audited by the insurance commissioner.

They do not want that.
