Actually local law enforcement is doing something. They have made laws that make it illegal to protest one hour before and one hour after the funerals. Also they have to stay right at 1/4 mile away from the funeral as well.

Actually, it's 1000 feet and 2 hours, up from 500 feet and 1 hour.

I expect litigation on the increase as being unreasonable and in no way furthering a compelling state interest, but I believe that it would likely pass Constitutional muster based on previous precedents, even though those precedents are broad enough that they can be used to place such extreme restrictions on other forms of protest as well.

A radio station owner offered the Westboro church 5 minutes of airtime on 5 of his radio stations in exchange for not protesting the memorial service. According to the news, they have accepted this offer and will not be protesting.

However, Im Catholic and here is what I think:"

May the perpetual light shine down upon them. May they rest in piece. May the soles of all the departed rest in piece. Amen!

The rebellious residents of ***-infested Oklahoma think they can stop
the Gospel message of WBC from going forth by vandalizing WBC’s
property and passing laws they know are unconstitutional. They hate
God’s law, and they hate man’s law-lawless state! For mistreating His
people, God renders His anger with fury killing an OSU Women's
Basketball coach & assistant in a deadly plane crash. The heathens’
rage changes nothing. God still hates fags, fags still doom nations,
ergo, sodomite america is still doomed to suffer the wrath of an angry
God. The Lord Jesus Christ promised that no one would be able to stop
this Gospel from being preached, to wit: “And he answered and said
unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones
would immediately cry out” (Luke 19:40).
GOD HATES OKLAHOMA

Doesn't statements like this make it a "hate" crime and as such illegal?

Thank you for the correction...
