Why only Indian Casinos in Oklahoma?

The liquor in grocery stores thread got me to pondering Oklahoma Casinos.

So, why only tribal casinos in Oklahoma? Strictly economic development for the tribes? Limited time before other casinos are allowed in Oklahoma?

I was living in the Galveston/Houston area when casinos first started in Oklahoma, so, I missed the "start up" phase of casinos here.

I know certain casinos lease their name and style to tribes...Hard Rock. Others run casinos like a franchise, like Grand Casino. Will other casinos be allowed in Oklahoma...example: Harrah's, Caesar's Entertaiment, Boyd Gaming...etc?

I don't care if they're over water or even a boat. I wish the indian casinos would get out of classII or class III type gaming and go full blown...like Vegas or like the Alabama Coushatta in Kinder, Louisana..Coushatta Casino.

So, I guess my questions are; Will other/non-tribe casinos be allowed here? If so, when? If so, who? Where?
If Bricktown wants to really make some money, put a casino down along the river or canals and watch the money flow. Really, it may be to late...or to saturated with indian casinos so others can't make a profit?

???

I have wondered this as well... the Indian tribes sure do make a KILLING from legal monopolies on casinos and tobacco smoke shops. And though they are exempt from alot of taxes on the gas they sell, they still price it comparatively and pocket the change. And still get millions upon millions in Federal aid.

Gotta love it.

If my memory is correct no casinos were allowed at all in Oklahoma and the tribes sued in court on the grounds of tribal sovereignty and won.
The state never really granted the tribes authority to build and run casinos, they just lost in federal court.
Since the state couldn't stop the casinos they finagled a way to at least reap some of the financial benefits.

If it was left to the OK legislature no casinos would be allowed at all.

I read an article where Foxwoods Casino (N.E. part of the U.S...not sure what state) was losing money or profits. So, what did they do? As a tribal casino applied for federal money to help revive their casino. Hmmm, federal money . Could any casino in Vegas apply for a federal bailout? Don't think so....free enterprise/free market is slapped on them.

**Don't get me wrong. Oklahoma tribes..or the majority of them have needed a financial boost. The lucky ones had oil and gas royality**

I just wish...here we go again..Oklahoma would have opened the pathway for ALL casinos. Do it CORRECTLY OR NOT AT ALL.

Heck, Texas refuses to allow casinos!! Those Texans are spending their money where?? Yep, Oklahoma and Louisana.

Just one of those questions about Oklahoma that makes you wonder...hmmm.

Nah. They don't want to kill whitey. We are the ones they are making the money from.

I don't know, man. I've spent my fair share of time (and EARNED money) in casinos across our state. In keeping up with the gambling trend, I'd wager money on quite a few of the casino's dollars coming from direct and indirect Government-issued individual handouts.

[not so] Funny story, my wife works for DHS (one of the good, honest divisions that never receives media coverage but gets labeled as evil and corrupt since they still fall under the DHS umbrella) and she's told me about individuals in her office receiving non-earned pay and then going outside to bum rides to Remington Park. As a reminder, my wife is the "Obama is the PERFECT president!" type liberal, so she's not one to usually bash social welfare programs or recipients, so I don't doubt her story.
