In a local gun shop, I was shown a picture of a mountain lion that someone had also taken off of their trail camera not too long ago. For something that wasn't supposed to be in OK, there sure are a lot of them----or one of them is sure traveling through the state a lot.

I seem to remember someone getting a pic of one off their game camera near a civilized area. Broken Arrow, perhaps?

It really wouldn't be surprising. They have no natural predators (maybe coyotes) around here, and basically fly under the radar.

The Wildlife Department isn't denying the existence in Oklahoma any more. Or at least the last time I paid attention. I think they probably still get a thousand false reports for every one that is legitimate though.

Each year the Wildlife Department investigates dozens of these reports. Although hundreds of recorded sightings have been reported, only 11 have yielded enough physical evidence to clearly confirm the presence of a mountain lion.

My Grandfather shot and killed a mountain lion around 1970 here in Oklahoma as we were bird hunting.

I've had two or three pics of this one this year.

My veterinarian tells me he has treated several colts over the last decade with injuries consistent with big cats. All near the Cimarron River.

I saw one in the late 90s also close to the river. It loped out of a grass fire right in front of me.
