Rapid City woman dies after stabbing at local Walmart

RAPID CITY, S.D. – A woman has died after being stabbed in the parking lot of a Rapid City Walmart.

Rapid City police say they were called to the Walmart at about 3:20 p.m. for a report of a stabbing. A 30-year-old woman was found with multiple stab wounds in the parking lot. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her name has not been released.

The suspect was found barricaded in a bathroom at a nearby hotel with self-inflicted stab wounds. He was transported to a hospital and detained by law enforcement. His condition is unknown.

KOTA-TV reports that the woman was a Walmart employee. Rapid City police spokeswoman Tarah Heupel says she does not know if the two people knew each other.

Authorities are continuing to investigate.

Rapid City is a rough place. It is in the middle of nowhere in the black hills, about an hour from Mt. Rushmore. The indians have a very real war going on with the rest of the town. It gets ugly from time to time. Not saying this is part of that, but it just goes to the mindset out there. By the way, Deadwood is about 15 minutes from there. It was a wild town back then too.
