Yep. Don't have chickens, but have seen a black snake curled around an egg to break it one time. I hear they can be a nuisance around them.
Are ya sure? All I ever heard about swallow the eggs whole, then wrap themselves around something to crush the shell. My brother said he found a dead one once that had swallowed a cold-cream jar.

They used to sell porcelain eggs to put in hens' nests to kill snakes. Some of the old timers even used porcelain doorknobs back when they were plentiful. ;)

I don't even mind sharing a few eggs with 'em, I do mind reaching in to pick up a few eggs and feeling or seeing their presence. Now that will get me moving pretty quickly! Like this :bolt:

Yeah, snake was in the hen house, and wrapped around the egg in the nest. We watched it for a bit before they killed it.

Still do, my buddy brought me out a few to "help" kill the snakes. I told him thanks and set them in the barn shop. I hate snakes, but need 'em, less the rats overtake the farm...
