Yep. Don't have chickens, but have seen a black snake curled around an egg to break it one time. I hear they can be a nuisance around them.Imature black snake like Dennis said good snake unless you have chickens that lay eggs
Are ya sure? All I ever heard about swallow the eggs whole, then wrap themselves around something to crush the shell. My brother said he found a dead one once that had swallowed a cold-cream jar.Yep. I don't even mind sharing a few eggs with 'em, I do mind reaching in to pick up a few eggs and feeling or seeing their presence. Now that will get me moving pretty quickly! Like thisYep. Yeah, snake was in the hen house, and wrapped around the egg in the nest. We watched it for a bit before they killed it.Are ya sure? They used to sell porcelain eggs to put in hens' nests to kill chicken snakes. Some of the old timers even used porcelain doorknobs back when they were plentiful.
Still do, my buddy brought me out a few to "help" kill the snakes. I told him thanks and set them in the barn shop. Might have been trying to get it in position to swallow it then. I think they have to push it against something (or themselves) to get it swallowed. Dunno.Yeah, snake was in the hen house, and wrapped around the egg in the nest. We watched it for a bit before they killed it.
