Counterfeit pens are easily fooled. The color change is due to iodine reacting with starches in the cotton fibers in the bills. The right cotton paper and laundry stain remover, nail polish, or deodorant can easily fool it. I quit trusting the pens when I worked in retail.

I agree with Veggie, don't trust the pens. Look closely at the bill, check the lines and if they are not even that's a pretty good indicator. Seen some of the best fake $20 bills in the state a few years back.

I made the drive to Choctaw once. Guy handed over a rifle and asked for my license. I laughed, he didn't. I went home empty handed.

He was a talkative old guy. Kept trying to explain how I needed to sign a hand written receipt.

by far, I've had my best FTF deals with the members here from Tulsa. Meet up, shake hands, exchange money/guns. Done.

Had a guy refuse to sell me a gun because I didn't show him my ID. We met right after work so I was still in a U.S. Air Force flight suit lol. His loss not mine. I don't show my ID to the police much less strangers.

I will say, you looked sharp the other day when we met up, now the first time you looked like a high school lad to me! LOL! Haaaaaaaaaaaaaa! But the first time I saw you, I was buying from you so I needed not to ask your age! You do look young!

If someone insisted on that from me - we're done.

That seems to be a fairly common attitude,,,
So we will never be able to do a deal.

I absolutely do not care if anyone thinks it's insulting,,,
In fact, in this matter I could not possibly care less.

My wanting to see some picture ID is a prophylactic measure,,,
And I tell people before we meet that I'll want to see it.

My gripe is that knowing that requirement,,,
They still schedule a meet and try to renege on their promise.

And yes, I've walked away from the cold green cash.

I refuse to take the risk of selling to an iffy person,,,
The consequences are just too dire for me to take any risks.

I tried to sell an old used car to a man two years ago,,,
He brought me the $400.00 in cash,,,
I had asked for a money order.

I also asked him to sign a bill of sale,,,
When he refused (and I had informed him of this) I called the deal off.

My pop sold a truck a few years back by taking the cash and signing the title,,,
Years later he was hit with close to $500 in parking tickets and a tow bill,,,
Because the buyer never took the title to the tag agency for transfer.

If Pop would have had a bill of sale with signature,,,
That would have convinced the powers-that-were he wasn't the owner any more.

Guns are a different thing altogether,,,
But the same basic principle applies to the sale.

I want something to ensure I can prove when I gave up ownership of the gun and to who.

So if we can't ever do business,,,
That's okay because there I someone else I can deal with.

You're the first person I've heard of that takes a notary to a gun sale.

I don't need a notary,,,
Just a signature on my copy of the bill of sale.

Again, I'm up front about this before we even talk price,,,
It's my gun and my sale so I get to make the rules.

I'll tell you how serious I am about this,,,
I was once going to gift a .22 revolver to a good friend,,,
I asked him to sign my copy of the transfer document for my records.

When he said he didn't want to do that,,,
I didn't gift him the revolver.

Yes, I might be paranoid,,,
But no one has to deal if they object,,,
And I've always sold everything I wanted to eventually.
