Just the way I view it. But I'm just an ignorant, simple truck driver who isn't originally from the US. What do I know.

Don't do that, it undermines your credibility.

We all know that profession and education do not have a great deal to do with intelligence and common sense. I know some highly educated so-called sophisticates who are among the stupidest people I have ever met.

Lemme see... 13 colonies existed before a central government was considered. They eventually became sovereign, independent states (small nations per se). They agreed it was mutually beneficial to band together to defeat England in order to secure their freedom. Afterwards, with the shortcomings of the AoC, they decided on fixing the problems and though not their original intent, came up with the Constitution.

A government that worked (well, not really) for a 18th century agrarian colony can also work for a 21st century superpower!

I'm an Oklahoman first, American second. Same as the Drafters, Founders and Ratifiers of the Constitution were.

Because the Founders did it, it must be right!

Just the way I view it. But I'm just an ignorant, simple truck driver who isn't originally from the US. What do I know.

(This isn't sarcasm) If you ain't Dutch you ain't much :)

I sometimes wonder why I spend time on this forum. Maybe it's only so I can see my avatar. :D

And yes, I'm half Dutch. Mom was from the Netherlands.

And do you REALLY believe states are capable of existing on their own, without the Federal government.
If your meaning is could they make their own minds up on what is best for them concerning them locally county and state wide...... Yes they could....

Education, taxes, roads and bridges, laws, how they treat each and every one of their citizens.....Yes they could..

If you want a prosperous and thriving state and nation it has to be handled on the local and statewide level...... When you get to far from the people you become unplugged and uncaring towads them....

This is why the County Sheriff and the Distric Att. are the most powerful people in thier county (if they use that power of course)... Why can a Sheriff tell the feds to kiss his bunghole if the warant is illegal or has not gone through the particular channels in his county?

Can the federal gov survive with out the states?....Nope....

Ugh. I'm going to give ONE EXAMPLE of why this is false.

We have this thing called division of labor. It's pretty great. It lets some areas specialize in certain industries for greater efficiency in production, like steel used to be in Pittsburgh, PA and Gary, IN. Ease of transportation allows people from New York to Los Angeles to buy steel from these places and it's far more efficient than every state to have their own steel mill.

However, you need to transport that steel, typically using railroads or the interstate system. Big inter-state transport systems are a big job, however, and to build them they need capital and coordination from some higher authority. The First Transcontinental Railroad was federally funded, as was the Interstate highway system. I submit that it's unlikely that all 50 states could individually negotiate with each other to put this system in place in a manner as efficient as the Federal government doing it.
