I am trying to figure out to grill/smoke sausage. I bought some ekridge smoked sausage (pork, turkey, beef) and cooked it and it was terrible. Did I buy the wrong kind?

Are you talking about the fully-cooked kind from the store? If it was fully-cooked, then you can't do much besides heat it through and sear the outside. If you tried to really cook it, it probably came out like jerky.

If it was a true raw sausage, then I dunno what was wrong, maybe you could tell us what you did to it? Did you smoke it for 18 hours at 180 degrees, or just cook it through on the grill, or what?

Fully cooked all ready. Guess that would be the problem. It was just plain nasty.

Best way to do it, is throw some burgers on the grill. When they get to smoking good and flaring up it's time to throw on the sausage. I cook mine until it splits open and chars on the outside. Good stuff! :spaghetti:

Try something like Johnsonville Brats. I like them cooked on the grill.

mmmmmmmm gooood!

This, without a doubt. Cook 'em till they start to split, but be careful not to overcook them. Dry sausage is a sad thing. A little grilled brat, a little brown mustard, a little saurkraut. Sooooo nice. :D

I cook brats all the time. I don't want to seem like an amateur. I just wanted to try smoked sausage and it came out bad. I cooked the smoked sausage till it split about 5 minutes or so, but the taste was horrendous. It was the elridge precooked smoked sausage. I'm just not sure if I got a bad package or something, or if all the precooked smoked sausage is not great.
