We settled it via edits and p.m., but thank you for your concern that this thread may have been tainted somehow by the process.
240 posts and counting. Few from TimB but from what few there are I take away this:
TimB is all about safety - saving lives and making it harder for criminals to get guns by making it harder for the law abiding to get guns (that one I'll never ever understand).
This whole thread boils down to a culture war; a difference of ideology simply stated as there are those that value safety more than freedom and those that weigh freedom as having more value than safety.
To those that value safety over freedom I can only paraphrase what another has said: "Those that give up essential liberties to gain more safety deserve neither liberty nor safety".
That is all...

If he is a troll, then he probably doesn't believe what he is writing. If not, then I am glad he is here. We need to debate these guys and hone our talking points.
Whatever the case, I bet there are lots and lots of sportsmen who feel this way. We have to get them on our side (and insulting them ain't gonna do that....)

I wanted to go with pistols at dawn. But, to be honest, I never get up that early. So we went with a more civilized manner of settling it.
Did you call in and have a back ground check done on yourself, before you shot it? If not, case closed on gun control.
What? Huh? You've completely lost me. Because my buddy let me shoot his rifle without a background check, or because I enjoyed it? It's not like he let me take it home...
As we all know, such proposals do nothing more than pet the delusional egos of backward-thinking people who think that disarming law-abiding, well-prepared, responsibly-armed citizens will somehow keep them more safe. The reality is that everyone is far safer when good people are armed and prepared to save lives when it counts most. It is the "casual" folks like you that "hold fast" that we (Americans) "need" to have our rights chipped away...a little at a time. That is the mentality of those believing - it doesn't impact me, so it's fine. Those folks fail to see that it DOES impact them, but for the blinders they wear, they're really not seeing it.
It'll be a sad day on the horizon that suddenly overnight I am transformed from a legal law-abiding citizen into a criminal - and due to the laws enacted at such time, the only thing I must do to fall into the criminal category is to merely keep breathing.
