I always pull over, roll down all windows and put both hands on the steering wheel. When they ask for my driver's license I say, "It's in my bag/glovebox/console, do you want me to get it?" Usually, they say yes and I do so slowly. No big deal. Last thing I'm gonna do is make any sudden moves... sure he asked for the wallet, which may be the exact thing the driver is waiting for, as a cover to pull a gun he has hiding. Was it a justified shoot? Not at all... but I personally take every opportunity I can to do things slowly and with not just permission, but with notification to the officer.

I mean... personally, I don't want to take any chances on being shot for something silly... so I do whatever I can to avoid that.

I see it a bit differently than most. Driver was not particularly smart with his immediate and fast reaction to get his DL. Watching the video he seem more than eager to be accommodating to the officers request. So much so that it almost cost him his life. The LEO is either guilt of being a terrible shot or wasn't trying to kill but to wound to stop. I don't think all the blame goes on the LEO. Both messed up but not to the extent of the LEO facing 20 years in prison. I think the LEO's department is overreacting to this to some degree due to all the recent W on B police shooting lately. I'm glad the guy survived but don't blame the cop as much as others do here.

This is where I'm at. We don't know the goings on in his area, what he had been through earlier in the stop, etc.

Nothing. My post you quoted was in response to a question.

I see it now. Duh... :hithead:

Late to the party...I agree with the cop getting fired, but because he is a horrible shot. Four rounds at close range and he only scores a leg hit?

Just imagine if the guy would a been killed instantly.....

Family, General Public, MSM: unarmed Black male killed by White officer.
DA: Please wait until the investigation is complete. Video doesn't show all the facts.
Grand Jury: Victim had pot in his system, video isn't only things considered, victim moved fast.
Leo: I thought he had a weapon, I felt threatened.

Grand jury verdict: Justified Shooting.

Citizens outraged, Protests and maybe riots.
Family sues city for violating civil rights, city settles, Cop keeps his job.

What if the guy did have a gun in there he was going for? That's that whole fine line thing I was talking about in my earlier post. Just watched it again and I honestly don't know that I would have done anything different than the trooper. I'm pretty sure the hits would have been better at that range though.

Edit: But yea, you are right. Had the guy died, that trooper would be toast. Might be anyway, unfortunately.

no s$@t, sherlock.

If you would have sleuthed further you would have seen that it was a direct response to s4f saying that cops don't stop solely for a seatbelt. I was saying that isn't true do to my own experience.

Fantastic detective work, dude.

Oh mercy, you're a beast (can't make a point clearly, but you're a beast nevertheless). I feel so humbled.

Whole different ballgame if there would a been a gun in the car....lots more questions. My question would be, so what? Citizens can have guns in cars. Things get complicated fast lol.

Just hope everyone gets what they deserve from this point. Victim and LEO.

Seat belt law has been a primary since 1997. So...bummer dude.

This is the real BS of the whole incident. There should have been no reason at all for this "interaction".
The State passes BS laws, that serve no purpose other than to "protect us from ourselves", generate revenue, and/or provide a handy excuse to initiate a traffic stop.
Yeah, I know, over-dramatic, we should compare ourselves to the middle-east, whining like an old woman....heard that before.

I guess I'm just wondering why the dude couldn't have just driven wherever he was going without being pulled over - was he posing a threat to other drivers?

The answer to that question is painfully obvious -- the majority of voters thought it was a good idea to elect a bunch of politicians who were influenced enough by some special interest groups/lobbyists out there to pass a law to protect us from ourselves ... mix in a cop whose over-zealous use of discretion and extremely poor decision-making skills make him the poster child for why departments ought not lower their standards for any reason ... beat on high until so mixed up nobody can figure out how to fix the problem and voila!
