Hi -

I have a Kohler Courage on my lawn tractor and after 300 hours of service it died a violent death. I've done a bit of "googling" and it appears the name COURAGE is derived from the saying "It takes courage to own one". I'm curious if anyone else has suffered the same fate I have with a Kohler Courage. It's real disappointing tp she'll out 4K for a lawn tractor, do all the regular maintenance, and have it die.

Comments, thoughts, etc.

I've got one. It's several years old. But after I bought it and used it about 2 or 3 months my son informed me chances are it will die a tragic death sooner than later.

Yes I have one a 20hp, OHV, the block cracked like an egg. It has a crack that starts near the starter, and goes all the way around to the opposite side. It just split in half.

Kohler no longer makes the series that was in this mower. (I wonder why?) A replacement Kohler engine cost more than the complete mower did. If anyone needs external parts I will give this away. Starter, carb and other things like that can be used, may even have a few internals that can be used. All I know for sure is it is in my way and I am about to toss it in the junk pile then haul it off for scrap.

Oh it had 137 hours on it when running it went BANG, and was dead. It was replaced with a B&S 21hp, was a 45 minute swap and the B&S engine was less than $600 delivered to my door.

If your still close to Ponca, I might take it off your hands. Mine is not the courage model, but I do have an 18 HP takeoff Kohler from a lawn tractor that basically fell apart at the seams on my log splitter now.
The spare starter, etc might come in handy one of these days.
