I'll be more inclined to accept the theory of evolution when science can prove where life actually came from and how it began. Until then I feel like my own guess (opinion, faith, whatever) is as good as anyone else's.
Shorter?
In my experience, every generation is taller.
If by we you mean a population of humans, then ok. but if you mean we as in you personally, then that is incorrect. We can evolve taller or shorter depending on our environment.

You think the same thing about gravity? You know gravity is real right? You also know that we don't know exactly where gravity came from?
By your logic, because YOU don't know, they don't know, then your guess is as good as theirs?
What happens when the the laws of physics go to the speed of light or faster?
Not even close to what I said. I said that once science could prove what life is I'd be more inclined to accept science's theory of how life progresses. I really have no idea why they don't know - but I'm inclined to believe that it has nothing whatsoever to do with me. I recognize that I'm fallible and could very well be wrong and I also recognize that science is fallible could very well be wrong (geocentric universe, static universe, luminiferous aether, phlogiston, etc). In that regard, yes - as far as I'm concerned my (opinion, faith, whatever) is as good as science's theory.
Does that help clarify?
(edit) oh, and yes - I recognize gravity is real just as I recognize life is real - though I don't see what that has to do with my original statement (/edit)
I think its ironic that many people get the idea of pedigrees but then can't accept that at some point in time we (humans) did share a common ancestor with an ape.
