Planned on making an all day sit today since it was supposed to be cloudy, cooler and finally a North wind!! That last until about 7:35am when I heard a grunt behind me. Turned slightly only to see nothing. A few more seconds went by and another fairly loud grunt, but still no buck spotted. Then a doe started blowing in the opposite direction, but quite a way off. Then out of the corner of my eye I catch movement, turn my head an inch and there he stands. Immediately starts pawing a scrape and thrashing a licking branch.....10 yards away from me. While he was thrashing the limb I got my ML situated and let him have it. He ran about 75 yards and stretched out along a downed tree. I gave him some time to expire, made a few texts and some does and fawns came in about ten minutes later, so I plugged a doe too lol. Only thing that would have topped it off is if my daughter would have been there with her bow. Would have been perfect shot situation for her, oh well, gives us a reason to keep going back for another one. Have another buck that appeared on cam Friday night, she's claimed in she says lol. Probably the darkest rack, and most character of any I've taken. He weighed 208lbs, didn't have a lot of fat, and was just starting whiz on his tarsals and get stinky. His neck was getting there but nothing too crazy yet.
Passed him up several times with a bow 3 years ago. About a week after this pic, he broke off his right side. The second pic is the only time he was seen last year. Had dozens of pics of him this year.
