I remember the heat some, what I remember most from those 2 or 3 years is that everything around dried up. Other than windmills, pumps or hauling water, everything was dry. Creeks, ponds and the Salt Fork trickle moved whichever way the wind blew. Even some of the smaller springs quit. We threw a 2x4" in each stock tank so the birds would have something to stand on to drink no matter the water level.

We moved into our RV in a small mobile home park in OKC in 2011. I have a multi-station indoor/outdoor wireless thermometer system and the outside sensor was hung under one of our RV's slide-outs so it would be in the shade. I distinctly remember seeing 115 degrees on that sensor.

Now, we are in Oregon, where at about 3:00pm it is 85 degrees on that sensor in the shade. We are still getting down into the upper 50's and lower 60's each morning.

I used to do that too so squirrels could get out if they fell in. More than once I fished a drowned tree rat out of a tank than was low.

Same with cats. When we were on the farm, we pumped water for our cattle in remote fields out of a big stock tank that was always replenished by the water pump, and we would lose cats when that level was low. Tied a 2x4 to a fence post and put the other end in the water. Didn't lose any more cats.

Love those kind of mornings... it was a muggy 80+ degrees this morning driving home from work at 7AM.

In 2011, the temp in Grandfield was 100 or more for 97 days during the years. I forget if that was 97 consecutive. Doesn't matter.
