Is it legal to carry a loaded handgun openly in your hand, on your own property?

Like going to the mailbox, taking out trash, etc.

Thanks. :drunk2:
21 O.S. 1290.4: As provided by Section 1272 of this title, it is unlawful for any person to carry a concealed or unconcealed handgun in this state, except as hereby authorized by the provisions of the Oklahoma Self-Defense Act or as may otherwise be provided by law.

21 O.S. 1290.2 (A) (2): "Unconcealed handgun" or "open carry" means a loaded or unloaded pistol or handgun carried upon the person in a holster where the firearm is visible, or carried upon the person in using a scabbard, sling or case designed for carrying firearms [emphasis mine];

21 O.S. 1289.6 (A): A person shall be permitted to carry loaded and unloaded shotguns, rifles and pistols, open and not concealed and without a handgun license as authorized by the Oklahoma Self-Defense Act pursuant to the following conditions:
...
6. For lawful self-defense and self-protection or any other legitimate purpose in or on property that is owned, leased, rented, or otherwise legally controlled by the person;

----------------------------

I would interpret that as "carry is forbidden except as provided by law," "open carry requires a holster, sling, scabbard, or case," and "you can carry on your own property (with or without a permit) openly," which refers to the definition in 1290.2 (A) (2). So, no, in your hand isn't okay.

My opinion, of course, worth every penny you paid for it.

Ok... how about openly carrying a holstered handgun in your hand (again, on your own property)?

Maybe. Probably? But who wants to be the test case? If I were to take a weapon outside when I haul the trash to the curb, I would in all likelihood have it (the weapon, not the trash) dropped it in a pocket or have it otherwise tucked away out of the casual observer's view.

Yeah... fat guy often wearing sweatpants. Trust me, ya don't wanna see the results of putting a heavy handgun in a pocket... :D

I have a weapon on my person pretty often when I'm going to the shop or whatever. Can't see caring it in my hand, usually have one hand tied up with whatever I'm carrying/doing and need the other to open doors. I could see having a gun in my free hand would be asking for something bad to happen.

What he said. There are times to be a test case, but they're few and far between. Run a belt through the loops of your holster and put it on over your sweatpants. Heck, get a super-cheap belt and holster dedicated to the purpose and keep them assembled and by the door for easy access.
