Yet the folks who see you and do not interact with you draw an inference from open carrying. Same as I do it serves no real purpose other than making the public even more nervous about guns and makes you a target of folks bent on nefarious action. Trust me I know to the tune of 3k in legal fees and 1k in fines what open carry can get youWhen done with courtesy and kindness, it serves to remind the masses that those of us with means of defence aren't evil, and and can be quite friendly.
I don't practice it daily, but it's nice to shake hands with somebody who doesn't know that we mean no harm. And I do actually shake hands when the opportunity presents.
