Off Duty Langston Officer Shoots shoplifter he was trying to arrest. The shooting was caught on video showing the officer shot at the driver of the vehicle he was trying to arrest when the driver used his vehicle as a deadly weapon. The driver backed up out of the parking spot with the driver's door wide open forcibly moving the officer backward and would not stop. The officer fired while the car was backing up and continued firing at the car when it was escaping.

The picture is the first shot. The car is still backing into the officer at this time with the driver's door open.

I only see one problem with this shoot. The officer continued firing when the driver was driving away.

IIRC, that’s the second time for an off duty officer involved shooting at that Walmart. The first time the officer was from Amber and he was the one who got shot.

No wonder he missed...holding the gun sideways,...I know, I hope ...he was not trained to shoot like that.

That's your criticism? He didn't miss. The dude is in the hospital being treated for gunshot wounds. #2 Can't hold your gun sideways to shoot? The bullet doesn't care it'll still come out of the barrel. You might try training that way. Not every situation is going to be optimal for the straight up grandpa grip.

Here, but occasionally There.
I kind of agree with yukonjack. In such a situation of a vehicle backing up and forcing the officer to move with it, one might not be able to take the proper stance for shooting.

However, since I've not been trained in such matters, what do I know?

Watching the video, you get a little different view beyond what this frame grab would indicate. He was being pushed backward by the open door, and while trying to avoid falling, he drew and fired. I’m not sure a shoplifter is worth this level of action, but I can’t criticize his shooting style.

You couldn’t pay me enough to work security at that Walmart. It’s almost as bad as the one in Northside Tulsa. I’d say he may have been justified for the first shot but shooting at the fleeing vehicle was a heat of the moment mistake.
