" I competed with M1As and my Mini-14, just to prove the superiority of the design. (once me and my Mini went completely underwater in a creek minutes before the 500 stage)" per Ted Kennedy.

First off I have been actively shooting 3-gun matches since 1995, and this statement is absolute fallacy! The M1A is a good rifle, but it needs a lot of work to make accurate enough for the action shooting sports. In the infancy of 3-gun, it was more reliable than AR-10s, but around 2005 that all changed with the AR-10 becoming just as reliable with good magazines (sunset of 1994 omnibus crime bill). Presently the AR-10 is much more accurate and as reliable at a fraction of the cost in factory rifle to factory rifle. Bottom line equal! Neither is superior, with accuracy far superior in the AR-10.
Now on to the Mini-14..... First, I have never seen a mini-14 win a single major match, ever! I only knew of one person that shot one in most matches and that was Cheryl Fordice....which I don't think is Ted's real name. The Mini-14, up until really recently has always been a 3-5 M.O.A. gun which is never going to be enough accuracy to win a match. Next, I have seen many Mini-14s break over the years, the extractors break, the op rods break, the firing pin fails, the trigger group liked to break the trigger pin. Unless you had factory Ruger mags it was a jam-o-matic! and the sights are terrible. It is an absolutely abominable competition rifle and there is almost no
Accessory or up grade that can help it. Now I tried to like the Mini. I tried every trick to bed, tune and accurrize it! Nothing worked! I also used an M1A up until 2000! I even placed 5th in the old SOF world championship using one, but it had lots of work done to it. Bottom line!

They are not superior in any way! and this statement is an outright pipe dream especially when it comes to the Mini-14s in any competition!

Busted. You're right. I can't hit **** with the Mini, it didn't go underwater, and I never took a trophy with it. Same for the M1A. Too heavy to actually compete with, ammo weighs a ton. The design of the Mini, (the Garand rotating bolt) is obviously inferior, and just can't stand up to abuse, or challenging weather conditions.

3-gun...do they have a men's division?

Try a Rem 742, 7400, 4 in .243 or 6mmRem.

The .30 Carbine loaded with 110 gr Hornady Vmax bullets is a good deer, hogs load. It shoots great in my Blackhawk. COAL may be a concern in a M1 mag

I bought the AR crowd for years, but 64 gr Win PSP has claimed 17 deer, out to 235 yards. I prefer wood and steel, but they AR gets it done.

A shotty would be a solution, get an 1100 or 870 in 28 ga.

Hey Ted, 3 national USPS 3-gun championships, 2 IPSC world shoot championships one in shotgun, one in rifle, over 45 major match wins in iron sight and tactical scope divisions and not once did I see anyone with a Mini-14 on the steps listening to the National Anthem. Maybe your competitions were on ESPN 8 the Ocho, or maybe in Obscure Sports Quarterly, and a participation trophy for your Mini-14 doesn't count.
Come to think of it, I ran an M1A for 10 years (1990 - 2000) and I was know as Mr. M1A and I never heard of anyone else winning with one either. I don't doubt you went swimming with yours, but I do doubt you winning any major match with it. (Let's define major starting at 250 competitors or so).
At no time did I say anything about the M1A other than it needed a lot of work to make it accurate enough. ammo weight and rifle weight....well you need to spend some time in the gym if that's all you got!

Guess I'm old fashion, I like composite stock, wood is pretty" but how I hunt i,m in the creek bottoms mud, rocks and bob wire fences. So Composite suits me fine. Now for caliber I like a little more UMF so I went with a Savage Steven 200 in a 7-08. 3x9 Redfield scope. Works for me..

Had to dig deep (not really) in my marksmanship files to find a mini-14 accuracy troubleshooting guide. :D

It dawn's on me that old Ted and I can say anything we want about winning this and that. Here is one of several of Jim Scouten's shooting shows that features me at the Ft Benning 3-Gun match. I am very tricky, my screen name is KurtM....which is how I hide my real identity of Kurt Miller....Ted?? Well not so much, but hey Ted let's see proof of your "Mini" prowess.
