@Peter1861 i used to ride a lot as a kid and we used to punch cows for about a decade. My parents horses have finally all passed away and the last one they had finally got sold the other day.

I do have my saddle I need gotten rid of if I can make myself sell it. Maybe you or someone you know is interested.

I am similar in that I also have a saddle that was passed on to me by my father-in-law. While I can't keep it in the RV that is our home, it is in the home of a niece in their country home.

After the passing of my father-in-law, his oldest daughter came to me and asked if I could take a picture of his, but now my saddle, with his western hat sitting on it. That picture now hangs on her wall.

Won the Champion boxcar load of Steers and Heifers (144 head each) at the special feeder sale in Ft Worth Tx before there was Billy Bobs back in the day.
Never did any Rodeo, to much work and never had time to play but have rode some of the best cutting quarter horses that can be breed. King Ranch Little Peppy and Rey Jay lines. Good ones are harder to stay on than you would think.

My experience with horses is the slot in the front is where the $100.00 bills go and they come out the back in nice round biscuits.
I've plowed a few rows with a double shovel..makes me like my kubota more and more..lol

We are in total agreement that mounted shooting is pretty cool. There’s not many events that are close enough to justify the drive for me. The Lazy E has one or two a year, and there’s a few in the Eastern part of the state. Probably the closest event for you to watch is the World Finals in Amarillo, TX.
I just watched a video someone posted on here. Mounted shooting looks like a blast, excuse the pun! If I were younger I would get involved with that sopport. After watching these videos this morning, I told my wife I had found my next hobby. I said of course we will have to buy horses, tack, trailers, and all the stuff we need to do this, we got rid of that kind of stuff years ago. Being the smart ass she is, she said , you had better buy a hydraulic lift to help you get on and off the horse, while you are at it!

In line with that in bold, my father-in-law really like the cattle side of his farming and ranching business much more than the farming side. After selling the farm in the Panhandle back in the early '80's, they eventually bought a ranch in Nebraska.

We got a call from him one day that it looked like he was going to have to give up the ranch and move back to Oklahoma to be near family. He had gone out that morning to go check his cattle on horseback, but it took him most of the morning to finally get the saddle up on the horse. Then, after getting him saddled, he wasn't able to get into the saddle.

That is when he realized that the cattle business would have to go away. I know it hurt him deeply, because his heart was really into that.

I rode Saturday afternoon with a buddy of mine. We were on a pretty rocky hill, and somehow we managed to get tangled up in old barbed wire that was hidden in some tall grass. Needless to say, the rodeo was on. We both ended up on the rocks and wire facedown. When we got back to our feet, we just looked at each other and shook our heads. Our jeans and shirts were all torn up, and we had some minor cuts and bruises. The horses had a couple of superficial cuts on their legs. Overall, we were lucky because it could have been a lot worse. The hardest part of the day was trying to get my old bruised butt back on that horse.

Mounted shooting??? Are you kidding me…. Make sure you add eye and ear protect for the horse to your list of stuff you have to buy. This is the worst idea I have ever heard. Take two really expensive hobbies and combine them?
