I don't care what or who she is, or what she's said in the past. One area where our United States government has a duty to ALL US citizens, is to advocate on their behalf in foreign detentions. We've had more than enough SCOTUS rulings here in the US, where we failed to provide foreign citizens access to consular services from their country of citizenship. They always favor the person.

Note that I'm not saying the US owes Griner a get out of Russian jail free card. Just that they should provide Griner equal services as any other American citizen would qualify for.

I don't give a rat's azz where a member is from. But, a troll is troll. Without which, 90% of the conversation wouldn't exist, even when 75% of the conversation is trolling and troll trolling. I have to agree with Foxfire5 in the view that until a US citizen officially renounces their citizenship they are still considered to be citizens of our great country, and as such, need to be accorded all the protections and assistance owed to any other citizen, regardless of their status (gender choices, race, religious beliefs, affiliations, 'marriage' choices, etc). Our Constitution does not [for the most part] discriminate against our citizens which is one of the things that makes our country so much better than others.

This is not to say that Griner should be afforded any more or any special treatment above and beyond what every American Citizen is afforded. Being stupid is not against our laws, though in some instances it probably should be. She broke the laws of a foreign Nation, and as such, had been arrested, convicted, and sentences under their laws to serve time in prison. So be it. But we are still obligated to monitor her treatment and provide her the necessities to ensure her safety and well being.
