Those are nice thoughts, however, I don't believe that there are many current voters that have read those words. We all want laws that allow what we want, and ban those actions that we don't like.

If you can get enough others to agree with what you want, it is likely that there will be some candidate that will run on that platform.
I get it. You’re a pragmatist. But those who win elections aren’t right just because they won.

And for the record, I don’t want laws that ban actions I don’t like. I don’t want them because if all everyone does is tighten the noose around the necks of those that have different values and morals than themselves, we’ll all hang. I want only the laws that are the minimum necessary to protect people from aggression, theft, breach of contract, and fraud. Maybe a little less than what’s necessary just to be on the safe side.

There’s a word that used to refer to that sort of thinking about government and laws: American.

Seriously? You're saying MJ isn't legal in more places than it was 30 years ago?
:D
Oops, yes in the US it's legal in more location.
Certainly not the world.
I was earlier referring to usage, and the laws have not altered that in any way, shape or form. Just as many do it now as did 15 years ago before the push to legalize it in some states, began.

Nice try. You are the exception to the rule. If only everyone was as open minded as you, we would not need those nasty rules. But we just don't live in that world. Watch the news. Some want every immigrant to be allowed in no matter what rules there are. Then some don't want any at all. The reality is that something is going to change, whether it concerns drugs, guns, immigration, or highway speed limits.

On this forum, our interest is in gun rights. Our efforts should be directed to min sure that voters understand our position and join us in our efforts. Currently, there are certain stimulants that are considered illegal in Federal statutes. The last thing we need to to present ourselves, not only as attention seeking "auditors", but drug nuts also. Remember, perception is reality to everyone. What we perceive to be right, is not what others see. We can debate topics all day long, but our attention must be on presenting our view of 2A in a way that brings people into our camp and not into the other camp.

We have laws against burglary and theft. There’s no need to punish all drug users and addicts for possessing drugs because some of them steal due to drugs. Outlawing things because they might lead to crimes is a steep slippery slope.

I think there’s a gun analogy here that’s relevant. It’s not a great analogy, but let’s try it on for size… Guns are some of the items most targeted for theft. In fact, if you left a gun sitting visible in the seat of your car, there’s a pretty good chance someone would break in to steal it. If we ban guns, it would undoubtedly prevent thousands of thefts per year. There’s nothing wrong with owning guns, of course, but since they’re a favorite of thieves, maybe we should ban them anyway.

Yes! Let's ban thieves! I can get behind that idea just fine.

if you want to bring up service members, then shouldn't we also figure out which way the addiction travels? Are they addicted because of the weed or do they do the weed to deal with other problems, like PTSD?

I think they probably smoke weed for pretty much the same reason most people do; to get high.

We don’t need the “rules,” regardless of how open-minded the typical person is.

I wasn’t aware the purpose of OSA was gun rights propaganda. I prefer to engage people intellectually because that’s how I expect others to approach me. I find anything less disrespectful.

My “position” is individual liberty. That includes guns. It’s not the most common ideology, but it’s not unrealistic and it’s a message that resonates with Americans of all political leanings.

I don’t believe the exercise of gun rights precludes the exercise of other rights, so I will continue to advocate for the expansion of liberty and the contraction of government in every area of American life. You have my blessing to continue in your pragmatism. That’s not my style, sorry.

Have a nice evening. You are arguing for something that no one here has argued against. I guess we are just not intelligent enough to continue this discussion. I'm so stupid, I didn't even know I was pragmatic.

I'm not sure just whose style it is, sorry.

Woah.

I don’t know what just happened, but you definitely misunderstood something I said and I probably misunderstood something you said. :uhh:
