Hi guys,... I will be flying for the first time since receiving my CCW permit. I live in Tulsa and will be flying to North Carolina in June. I will be there for 4 days and wish to bring my Sig P-238 with me. I will be wearing a lot of dress clothes so I'm not going to bother with bringing my SA Champion.

I have already researched NC CCW laws and I am good to go once I get there. My question is what is the best way to get my P-238 to NC?? I will be at my dad's house so I can ship it there ahead of time or I can somehow check it on the plane. I just don't know what the better method is. Anyone especially familiar with the Tulsa Int'l Airport and it's procedures?

For you guys that travel a lot, any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Carl

I think most airlines have pretty clearly defined rules about how to travel with your firearm. So just check to make sure you're playing by their rules and take it with you.

That's great advice. Thanks a bunch.

Go to the TSA website too. Be sure to print the regulations and have a copy with you in case of disagreement.

FireCop203,... That is a really good idea and I never even thought of it. Thanks again.

I fly with mine to Houston monthly. I'm always on Southwest but I'm sure most are similar. When checking my bag I simply state "I need to claim a firearm"... I have the gun in a lockable case, unloaded, with padlocks on it (per SW policy), and the agent will fill out a small card and have you put basic info on it and sign it. They then have you open your suit case, usually have you open your gun padlocks and case to check that it is unloaded, then lock it back up and tape the card or lay the card on top of the gun case. Zip the luggage back up and you are on your merry way. I did have one agent put my card inside my gun case once, and I was drug down on the tarmac under the terminal in OKC and made to open my gun case in front of about 10 TSA agents... they thought I had transported the gun without claiming it until the saw the card inside. They politely let me go and the agent escorting me back said the ticketing lady would be fined for doing that when I checked it...

The first agent was correct, it goes inside the box. Too bad you got hassled over ignorance. The declaration form doesn't state that you have a gun, it basically states it is unloaded and it and any ammo is properly packaged and the weapon is secured in a locked hard-sided container.

I am getting ready to fly the end of the month and taking 2 handguns with me, have a pelican case all setup for them, rules printed out for reference, all I need are some good locks. Any ideas on which locks to get?

Definitely make sure it is a "TSA-approved" lock. All the big name lock companies make them. You should be able to find them at Lowes, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Target, etc. If the lockis not TSA-compliant, they could call you out of the secure area to unlock it or, more likely, use a bolt cutter on them.
