1933 Mosin Rear Sight Pin Removal

Any tips on how to do this without screwing up the finish. I tried using a tap but all I managed to do is to polish the top of the pin. How do you tell if they are soldered on? Any ideas how much to have a gunsmith remove them?

I wan't to install a Brass Stacker mount but the pins must seem like they are going come out before I order it.

I read somewhere pre 40 they are all soldered.

if i'm not mistaken the pin is tapered and only comes out one direction. i've removed the ladder but never the base on one. gfercaks may be correct on the base.
