So I picked up a 73 winchester model 94 in 30-30 earlier this year. I like it, but man, with my astigmatism I really struggle with the iron sights. I'm wanting to try something different, without molesting the aesthetics of the classic lever action. Its a top eject, rather than an angle eject, which means I need it drilled and tapped if I want to install some skinner peep or XS ghost ring sights on it. Both of which I think would work well, and wouldnt detract from the classic look too much. Any other options? What do you guys use? Suggestions on a good gunsmith to do this, and any idea how much it should cost me?

Because I got into long range shooting befoe my eyes went completely south I used Montana Vintage Arms veneer and Soule sights. Mount on the tang and gives as much staff as you order between models. Used on vintage Marlin lever-guns and the Marlin Ballards.

The MVA or Baldwin sights are way spendy but no substitute when you are reaching way out. Might look at the Lyman receiver sights or the vintage Lyman tang sights.

Williams makes a sight that doesn’t require tapping or drilling a new hole. You can pair it up with a new front sight.

Williams is one I couldn’t think of. Good catch HiredHand (great movie by the way)!

So here are pictures of options other than skinner. You’d need to research for your rifle.
