Hey all, bought a house recently and the tub and tile in the bathroom is horrible.... wish I woulda took a pic. We had the tub repainted, and we painted the wall tile white (it was salmon colored).

However, painting is not a permanent fix. So, I figured a free standing tub would be the best solution....problem is, makin the tub fit through the hallways. Anyone have any similar experiences?

Similar problem - I think I might have the same tile as you, although thankfully the tub's white. I did have gawdawful black with salmon colored flowers wallpaper to contend with though.

If my tub was the same awful color as my tile, I'd be thinking about having some pros come in and either glaze over it, which is supposed to be pretty durable, or install plastic over it. For just the walls, there are plastic overlay shower wall kits you can buy from Lowe's for about $100, or a variety of re-finishing methods that are supposed to be pretty permanent.

Here are some links of methods that I've considered:

Durable paint designed for tile/counters: http://www.armorpoxy.com/bath-and-kitchen/?gclid=CJS47aGzgaoCFQjf4AodSShwzA

I did mine myself, tore out the tile and sheetrocked with that blue waterproof sheetrock, then cleaned, etched and epoxy coated the tub. Then put up a shower liner from lowes.
Looks pretty good for a do it yourself project but it took a few days.

ya honeybee, that's about what ours looked like...and I put a shower liner in a houuse in stillwater. So noone thinks the free standing method is a good idea? I guess the budget part factors in heavily eh? Ya g.g, had ctplus redo our tub. Scratched and knicked and dropped stuff in it. On the plus side, might go hog huunting with the guy from ctplus....

Free standing tubs are a pain in the back to clean around unless they have a couple of feet clearance from all walls,,,,,yea thats going to happen.....
