Google false morels, their stems and cap won't be hollow like a true morel, they will be fibrous. I've honestly only seen a couple in 30 years. Some say they appear prior to morels by a week or two.

I've never seen one in the wild. I know they exist but I've only seen pictures.

Don’t have much fungus out here in the drier part of the state, but I always love this thread. Pictures of deer ,and fish ,and mushrooms are the some of the best things about OSA

City parks and road side ditches I know for sure.
Here in Norman, my family went to the Sutton Wilderness Area off of 12th Street and there's a sign that says "no collecting". Strike 2 for us.
