I asked if there was a prescription to help with the swelling I was getting in my feet. Doc said eat more pineapple, it is a natural diuretic. So I have been eating a can of pineapple chunks about 3 times a week. The swelling has gone down quite a bit.


This weekend my wife wrote a thank you note to my Doc.

Just a heads up, you’ll get even more benefit from pineapple if you eat it fresh. The process of canning pineapple kills off the Bromelin, which is the main acid or whatever that eats protein (tenderizing meat in marinades) and reduces inflammation.

Just keep in mind that consuming anything that is a diuretic will mean that your body doesn't have its normal amount of hydration, so be careful if you are doing much work out in this heat. Heat prostration can sneak up on you pretty fast.

Have never had that problem. I still wake up that way.

I suffer from edema, which means my legs swell up big as tree trunks from the knee down. It's worse in my right leg than my left, but yeah, it's a pain. If I don't keep it under control the best I can, my skin will bust open. I've been hospitalized three times with sepsis because of it. It's terrible.
