It'll be a rifle hunt in western CO. Not sure of exact area, although I know it'll be somewhere near Delta, or we will drive by it at least. It's a DYI hunt, but on private land. My buddy who went last year shot his elk at 100 yards, but did see some out to 250+-, just wasn't comfortable with a quick shot at that range.

My buddy has some land in Seminole where I deer hunt so I'll just head out there one day since everything sounds like a good distance away for some long range shooting.

Anyone got any first timer tips? Don't pass an elk u would shoot on the last day. Anything else? I'm worried I won't be able to judge a good bull quickly or pass a good one not knowing it.

Shoot your bull, no matter if its a raghorn or what. Get one under your belt, and then start getting picky. Enjoy your hunt! Every time you go, you will learn more.

Shoot a legal bull. Exercise exercise exercise ! Nothing you can do in the gym beats putting on a heavy pack and putting some miles on ! Have fun and don't put great expectations on yourself. In colorado the success rate is just over 10% accept the fact you might be eating a tag and have a good time take lots of pictures. (Being on private land your odds will be greater) focus on woodsmanship and watch the thermals ! Good luck !!
