What do you bet that we have spy satellite intel of some sort showing the plane being hit. Something more than an engine failure ruptured the fuel tank(s) to cause it to become a flying fireball. There was just too much fuel being dumped/sucked out to attribute the fireball to a broken fuel line or lines. When it hit the ground, it exploded like an aerosol bomb.
I believe it was shot down. Could just as easily have been on purpose as an accident. I'd check the passenger list for any reason for it to have been shot down (or blown up) before I entertained any theories that it might have been caused by a mechanical failure.
