There are many people who say this won't effect us and the senate will never ratify this. That might be right if our government had not gone to the dogs and put the most anti-american president in power with no check on what he does ( de facto amnesty anyone, drone stikes on us citizens)

Thats what Stalin said too.... Now we're making the same argument every other country that has opposed UN has made...

Of course, you have conveniently forgotten that Stalin did not rule by the consent of the governed but rather by dictatorship. He didn't even attain office via internally (i.e within the USSR) legal means - rather he attained power by force and then show/sham legal procedures followed as window dressing. So, while anyone and everyone can make the same argument it remains with the listener to discern who has credibility and who does not.

For clarity, the Senate does not ratify anything. It gives "advice and consent" (67 votes). The POTUS is the one that ratifies treaties.

The media used to use the phrase "the senate has to ratify the treaty". Regardless of word play, the treaty has to go thru the senate and get their blessing. Right now there are several treaties that past presidents have signed, and the senate has yet to ok them.

That is what scares me so much. If it is bad for America I have no doubt Obama will approve it. I am surprised he has not offered to sell Iran nukes yet.

Kerry Commits U.S. To U.N. Arms Trade Treaty Gun Grab

http://news.investors.com/ibd-editorials/032013-648751-kerry-announces-support-of-arms-trade-treaty.htm#

As the Heritage Foundation notes, imported firearms, considered part of the "arms trade" to be regulated, constitute about 35% of the new firearms market in the U.S.
"Under the guise of adopting what it deems to be 'appropriate measures,' an Administration could restrict imports by redefining what qualifies as a 'sporting' firearm - the definition of which is left completely to the discretion of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives," Heritage reports.
The ATT, Heritage warns, "could create a national registry (initially) limited to imported firearms. It could impose new requirements on importers of firearms, or parts and components of firearms, for example, by requiring them to provide the identity of the final end user.. ."

[On March 22, the president of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) conference, Peter Woolcott, distributed his latest draft of the proposed treaty, known as "President's Non-Paper."...

One very important question left unanswered is who, precisely, will decide who is an “authorized” end user?...

Article 11 of conference president Peter Woolcott’s latest draft proposal of the ATT requires state parties to “maintain national records” of the small arms located within their national borders.

Section 3 of Article 11 sets out the data these registries should contain. “Each state party is encouraged to include in those records the quantity, value, model/type” of small arms owned in the nation, as well as the name of the “end user.”...]
