Man that's just gorgeous. If you find that it's not just a good reproduction I'd do this:

1) Post it on the Colt Forum, they will figure it out.
2) Renaissance wax it to preserve it just as it is.
3) Maybe see if the JM Davis museum would take a look at it.

Whatever you do that's a great looking piece.

1902 Gen1 "prewar" Colt SAA per Colt's serial lookup. These aren't proofed for smokeless powders, unless done by Colt later on. That doesn't look like a factory engraving, but you never know. Compared to the "41 Colt" roll stamp and the patent dates, it's too crisp and clean. May have been done early in it's life or possibly as a restoration or even sent back to Colt. Best way to find out is hit up these:

Get a Colt Letter. It'll tell you what it was when it came out of the factory and where it was sent. It will tell you what finish and what grips was on it when it left. That would include if it was engraved. Would be badass if it was.

I doubt it is a reproduction. 41 Colt ammunition is extremely rare, and hard to find. Colt only made like 19,000 single actions in that caliber. I have no idea on the engraving, but if you get on Colts web site you can look up when it was made.... Or at least use to be able to. Last 1st generation Colt I saw in good shape in this caliber was around the $3500 range, but it wasn't engraved.

Thank you for that info sir. I too question how fresh the serials look stamped. Odd huh?

What are you referring to? I didn't see any markings on the cylinder retaining pin or the base pin. Now, somebody did take a pair of pliers to the base pin...it's all mauled up.

Your serial numbers are good to go and correct. I was talking about the engraving. The more I look at it, It might have been done at colt by a master engraver or sent out from the factory. Engravers initials are usually on the frame somewhere, but they're hard to find. Get that letter because it will tell you. For $100, it could mean the difference of a few thousand bucks.
