Any body that puts and leaves a stand on public land should expect others will hunt it.But considering I would get caught by ODWC and get fined,I would avoid it.

If it's not illegal I would leave a note and ask. I wouldn't want caught in someones stand public land or not. Sounds like a good way to not make it back out of the woods if you ask me...

for an answer to your original question.....I don't think I'd want to fight some of these guys for a deer stand.....
It could go very wrong in any number of ways. Its not worth it.

Its public land. Hunt it. If the owner shows up while you are there, get down and let him hunt it. If he is mad that you were hunting it he will have to drink a big glass of "get the hell over it". If he doesn't want people hunting his stand while he is gone, he should take it down between hunts.

IF the stand is illegally attached to the tree DO NOT hunt it. I have no doubt a GW would write you up if you were in it. Your hunting it, so its YOUR stand. Thats how the GW will see it at least.
