The Christmas (not PC correct) doe gun season opens this Saturday. Its a new date this year with more days to hunt.
(HOLIDAY ANTLERLESS DEER GUN SEASON: Dec. 17 - 26 in certain zones)
Just about snuck up on me, as I'm used to the old dates.
If your freezer is full, get out there and take one and donate it to the Hunters Feeding the Hungry program. The meat is donated to homeless kitchens, etc.
Its our chance as hunters to help out those that need some help in this economy.
They ask for a small donation to cover the materials to package the meat that is 100% tax deductible.
Get out there and help the folks from Oklahoma, and help our deer herd at the same time:D

Is there any information of where we can donate the meat?

Yes. Get the printed version at walmart unless You can find it on the ODW web site. I just spent half an hour looking for it and didn't find it.
The printed version has all of the hunters feeding the hungry program vendors listed.
Keep in mind to just make a phone call to your local processor. They may have a list of folks that want the meat and are willing to pay the processing fee, with no money out from the hunter if one wants to go that way.
Our local processor does that.

Just an FYI. Call before you plan to donate meat, just because a processor is on the list does not mean they will accept the donation. Been there, done that.

This is true. Been down this road as well. They get pretty busy this time of year, and just don't have the room.

Another good resourse to donate one is to contact your local GW. I know ours always knows of somebody in the county that could use some extra protein.

I really had no idea that there are places that you can donate meat to, my freezers are still full from getting my limit this year and from the ones we got with the vehicles.

Are there places that you can just take them the meat though? I have never taken a deer in to get processed, I always do it myself, I don't need any more meat, but I am going to take the old lady out hunting this time and I wouldn't allow her to shoot one if it would go to waste. I couldn't afford to bring the deer and pay for the process, just to donate to meat, but I could clean it myself and bring the meat to someone in need.
