Speaking of General Custer era guns, weren't his men denied the Henry rifle(repeater/lever action) because the Government thought it would be a waste of ammo? So they were issued the Springfield Trapdoor single shots with the ....breech loader??

I think the Spencer carbine was the primary Cavalry issue at the time. But I could be wrong.
