Helical Spring lockwashers- have you ever used them? I bet you have

Have you ever used these? I think everyone has. Thinking that they hold the bolt in place better.

Why are they used so much then? I have seen them on a lot of things.

I used them because they came with whatever I bought. I just put a dab of blue loctite (right or wrong) where the nut should end up, and regular washers.

The Air force went to lock nuts in the 70's after real science proved lock washers were guaranteed to fail

I guess if the nut starts loosening, the lock washer would slow that down? So, they need renamed to nutlooseslowerdownerwasher?
