See Sooner's reply above. Life isn't fair, and you get to have a free society, or a "fair" society. You can't have both.

The U.S. has never been anything close to a free society. Well, maybe in a few isolated areas before boats hit the shores they came close. But even then not for long.

A true free society is incongruous with capitalism and private ownership. And modern economics in general. You get what you make, find, or take. Until someone else takes it from you.

Never been free. Not here. Freedom is downright anti-American. 1776...all men are created equal? My ass. What a stupid Hallmark sentiment. Don't let Georges St-Pierre and DJ Qualls eat for a few days, then toss 'em in a room with keys to a 1-person smorgasbord and see just how damn equal they are. Right to life? Right to pursue happiness? Mamby-pamby ********. Earn your happiness, bitches. Earn every breath. Chimpanzees don't give each other those rights. Why do we?

Not everyone makes it in a free society. And those who do aren't punished for their hand in the losers loss.

And I say bull. You can have freedom, but that does not mean you can infringe on someone else's freedom either. You can be free and not be allowed to discriminate against people for things they cannot control such as race, color, gender, origin, and sexual orientation. Civil rights do not infringe on your rights, they ensure equal rights for all. That is part of what makes this country free. You are free to live your life as you wish so long as you don't infringe on the rights of others.

Refusing to sell/rent to someone who is gay, black, jew, muslim, etc is infringing on their right to buy/rent a home. If they are otherwise qualified to do so, and your only reason for saying no is because you don't like gays, blacks, jews, muslims, etc, then you are part of the problem. You can't do that. This is what the entire civil rights movement was about. Would you rather go back to segregation and whites-only water fountains? We live in a community, a society. This is not anarchy where it is every man for themselves. I think you misunderstand what the principles of what this country was founded on.

So you don't really respect property rights? If you own something, it's yours to do what you will (or not, whatever the case may be). If we went back to segregation, it would be a short time before companies that did not discriminate would make a killing dealing with blacks.

Down right truth. The entire idea of fairness was conceived by the human mind. It does not exist anywhere else. It is a byproduct of the notion that while humans are NOT created equal, no one has the divine authority to say who or what is acceptable or better in one person or another. The only other option is to treat everyone equally. Since this idea does not exist in the natural world, it takes massive resources and institutionalization to enforce, and naturally, erodes what would otherwise be thought of as absolute freedom.

Thanks, this saved me from typing the same thing.

Haha, I thought "man, this guy needs to come out of the closet and not be so hostile"!

I've stared at that picture in your profile long enough to know i'm not a homosexual. Unless that is a man in your profile pic, in which case i'm totally homosexual.

If some flaming homosexual came into my business wanting to rent a place i'd sell it to him in a heartbeat. Money is money, after all. What the hell do i care? I don't want to lose out on that cash, especially if it's reliable.

That being said, i'd like to not have my choice legislated by government institutions. If i want to be an A-hole to people i don't like, that's my right.

No one has a 'right' to a service unless that service is provided by the Government. That's my position, anyway.
