35. When can I renew my license?
SDA licenses can be renewed 90 days prior to expiration.You can re-apply as a renewal if your license expired no more than 3 years ago.If it has been over 3 years, you will be an expired renewal. As an expired renewal, you must process through the sheriffs office in your county of residence, resubmit fingerprint cards and pay the fee as would a new applicant.

My advice is to have everything ready for the renewal and send it in immediately at 90 days prior to expiration. That gives you 90 days plus 30 days grace before you can't carry. As an SDA instructor, I've found the people who came back and complained about renewals did NOT send it in promptly, and subsequently had to stop carrying for a period. 110 days from receipt is the longest renewal processing I've verified. YMMV
