You might consider that if you're going to be hunting it all, mobility and weight is going to be an issue. I messed with a .270 this weekend and while it was a nice gun, there's no way in heck I'd enjoy toting that thing around the woods. It made me love my 30-30 that much more.

Nothing wrong with the .308. Ammo is easy to find, especially surplus for practice. Recoil is manageable. On the other hand, the mainstream calibers like .270, 30-06 are just as reasonable.


The traditional caliber choices for American games are like trucks and religions. Whatever you are most comfortable with is the right choice.
