Sorry to hijack, but we've had multiple roofers come out and the two brands of shingles they keep offering are Owens Corning (One roofer offered to upgrade to Impact Resistant Class 4 for the same price) and GAF/Timberline. I haven't looked into the insurance benefits of the Class 4s, and the Timberlines are 30-year shingles, but I've been offered a 50 year warranty in writing. Opinions?

All Gaf/Elk shingles other than the 25 yr.Three Tab, have a limited 50 yr. (lifetime) warranty.

What is referred to as a 30yr. shingle, is now a 50 yr. shingle.
