This looks like a classic trick question based on order of operation rules.
However. I think it’s poorly presented.
Pair of earbuds + Pair of earbuds + Pair of earbuds = 30 -> pair of earbuds = 10
Person + Person + Pair of earbuds = 20 -> Person = (20-10)/2= 5
Pair of watches + pair of watches + person = 13 -> pair of watches = (13-5)/2=4
So is a pair of watches 2 watches or watches squared – either way a watch is 2
What about earbuds, is it 2 earbuds or earbuds squared – earbud could be 5 or the square root of 10.
I think we have to assume that they want us to do this without a calculator and go with addition of like symbols, even though XX = X^2, not 2X
