I hope the fall knocked him out. Drowning while burning seems an awful way to go.

I have read reports from people that have died and been brought back that drowning is about the easiest way to go. Momentary discomfort and then nothing.
Burning is the worst. Read about those burned that have to endure weeks if not months of baths in a burn unit to keep the burned skin soft while the body rejects it and new skin forms or transplants are performed.

Just to interject some humor in a sad thread, Red Foxx said that he had once been burned on his face.
They had to transplant skin from his own body to rebuild his face.
He said he didn't know where they got the skin from but every time he got tired his face wanted to sit down.
